Deirdre Fishel is a director whose documentaries and dramas have premiered in competition at Tribeca, SXSW, Sundance, AFI and Full Frame and been broadcast in 35 countries worldwide.
She is currently in production on a new documentary about 81-year-old sex educator Joan Price who is on a mission to defy pervasive ageist stereotypes and help all seniors, but especially women, claim their sexuality.
Recent credits include Facing the Wind, about two women who bond over taking care of their husbands with dementia, which premiered at DOC NYC 2024 and will air on PBS in 2026 and Women in Blue (2020) –about women officers working to reform the Minneapolis Police Department in the years leading up to the murder of George Floyd. Women in Blue premiered at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL and was broadcast on PBS’ Independent Lens.
Previous work includes the FORD and MACARTHUR FOUNDATION FUNDED Care and the groundbreaking documentary Still Doing It: The Intimate Lives of Women Over 65. Other directing credits include Suicide on Campus, a web documentary produced in conjunction with The New York Times Magazine and Risk, a dramatic feature, that premiered in competition at Sundance. Deirdre is a Professor and the Director of the BFA in Film at the City College of New York.
